The Crown Castle logo was developed by Sullivan NYC in 2015. Crown Castle does not have sub-brands or product lines like Nike or Microsoft. We do not create additional logos at Crown Castle unless it's an initiative sponsored by the Executive Management Team for company-wide use or it is a significant program or partnership that merits it's own logo. There have been only a few scenarios that a new logo has been needed. I designed these logos to compliment and reflect the masterbrand elements by using the corporate brand font and colors.
At Crown Castle, many people who head up a group, project or initiative contact the creative folks and plead their case for a logo. Nearly every request is denied to protect the integrity of the brand, However, we have found a way to thread the needle and give them a "wordmark" instead. It is simply a type treatment using our brand fonts and colors to create a unique mark they can use consistently. It uses elements that are simplistic enough to look like they could be done in Word. This allows a consistent element to be used in communications, it doesn't compete with the master brand, and most of all the client is happy and the brand integrity is maintained–a win-win for all.
I did not include these wordmarks because they are samples of great design, but because they have been a viable and successful solution to demands for an product or project identity throughout the organization. This is functional design solutions at work under a masterbrand.
